Take a quick minute and think about how confident and/or knowledgeable you feel when managing the scary stuff? After this class you will know the patho of why emergencies happen and what you can do about it. This course will go over 5 main OB emergencies: shoulder dystocia, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, hemorrhage, prolapsed cord and sepsis. You will learn some pathophysiology, signs to look for and what to do as the primary or support RN so that you can function freely in your role as the nurse.
At the end of this course it is expected that the student can:
- Demonstrate how to perform Macroberts and suprapubic pressure
- Interpret vital signs and clinical presentation to determine if a hypertensive patient is decompensating
- Identify sepsis criteria in a pregnant person
- Summarize the 4 stages of blood loss in a postpartum hemorrhage and appropriate nursing interventions for each
