I postponed doing my mentorship because of a seriously hard last year. I am currently off on maternity leave and this is providing a perfect educational boost for me going back to work. Thank you so very much for what you are doing. You will never truly know the impact you are having on both nurses trying to provide the best possible care, and improving experiences for laboring people. Just know you are reaching farther than you may think. It is refreshing to take a course that focuses on patients advocating, rights, and education based practice that supports a more holistic approach to labor. Labor is natural, women can do it, we should only be there if needed to support. I started this mentorship as an investment for myself and I have walked away with a plethora of knowledge and have made learned that my facility in a way is 'privileged' with some of our resources compared to others. This was such a valuable experience for me. I have been a L&D nurse for almost 10 years but always felt like I had big gaps in what I was taught...I was always asking "why" and looking to provide evidenced based care. Unfortunately, I don't think this is the norm for my unit and I felt a bit "extra". I dove into mentorship unsure what I was getting myself into and if it would be worth the money. I came with an open heart and thirst for knowledge. Let me tell you, it blew away all of my expectations. Within the first couple of months, I felt so much more confident in my practice.
